Urban Pest Management
A national leader in urban pest control, Purdue's Center for Urban and Industrial Pest Management provides training, educational materials and research on pest biology and management. Areas of research include structural, public health, turfgrass, and landscape and ornamental pest management; urban wildlife management; and sponsored product research.
Launched in 1936, the Purdue Pest Control Conference annually attracts more than 800 representatives from the pest management industry around the world.
To promote safer, more effective pest control, Purdue offers several pest management correspondence courses. About 2,000 people working in the pest management industry complete these courses each year.
Urban Forestry
To enable students to experience the real world of urban forestry, Purdue's Department of Forestry and Natural Resources started the Midwest Urban Tree Care Forum. Over a two-day period in April, students and faculty from urban forestry programs at several Midwestern colleges and universities meet with a variety of professionals in urban forestry and visit several sites in the Chicago area.
A series of urban forestry posters about the benefits and care of trees is available, in English and Spanish, through the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources and Purdue Extension.
