Extension honored for its connection to retirees
Purdue Extension has received the university’s first Arthur G. Hansen Recognition Award. The award, which will be presented annually, recognizes a university unit for fostering a strong relationship between the university and that unit’s retirees. Purdue Extension stays in contact with more than 250 retirees. “The attitude and actions of Purdue Extension for its extended family create a model for all units of Purdue University,” says Betty M. Nelson, president of the Purdue University Retirees Association. “It is fitting that they are recognized for their appreciation of the contributions and richness retirees bring to Purdue.” The award is named in honor of Purdue’s eighth president, who supported the creation of an organization for retirees in 1976. Purdue Extension is a knowledge-delivery system staffed by about 150 campus-based specialists and about 240 Extension educators who are based in Indiana’s 92 counties. It provides educational programs across the state to Indiana citizens who want practical solutions to local issues. |
